MONTH OF JANUARY 2009
Back by popular demand, the Mad & Noisy Gallery is once again mounting a community-based “Creemore-centric” show for the month of January.
Professional and amateur artists of all ages were challenged to render art in their own style on any subject related to life in Creemore in a 10” x 10”
frame. The finished paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures will be hanging on the gallery’s feature wall for the month of January, with the opening reception scheduled for Saturday, January 10th between 2 and 5 pm.
The Mad & Noisy Gallery, which is located on the main street of Creemore at
154 Mill St., is open weekends and on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
 
Jan. 12 - Alzheimer Society of Greater Simcoe County Support Group Meetings
Location: First Presbyterian Church, 200 Maple Street, Collingwood                                     (please use the door from the parking lot, closest to Maple St. and follow the signs to the room)
7:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.                      
Event: Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia can be a challenging yet rewarding journey. The Alzheimer Society of Greater Simcoe County holds a monthly Caregiver Support Group meeting where caregivers can discuss issues and successes in a confidential and supportive environment.   For further information call the Alzheimer Society of Greater Simcoe County at (705) 722-l066.
 
Jan 10 and 11 - Ice Dreams 2009
Location: Beaver Valley Community Centre Thornbury
9:00 am to 7:00 pm each day
Enjoy watching the talent of local skaters. There will be 230 skaters representing 11 different skating clubs coming to participate in this fun competition to showcase their talents. There will be a cafe, raffle table and much more to enjoy. The proceeds of this event go to the Beaver Valley Athletic Association to support youth in the Thornbury area. Jan 17 - Join Tubbs Snowshoes to Stomp Out Breast Cancer
Location: Scenic Caves Nordic Centre, Town of Blue Mountains, Ontario
Registration: 11:30am
Walk: 12:30pm
Race: 1:15pm
The Tubbs Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer Series is a 3km snowshoe walk or a 5km run that benefits the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Strap on a pair of Tubbs snowshoes at the Romp to Stomp to help create a future without breast cancer.

Feb 3 - Wear Your Toque Proudly on ToqueTuesday - Warm Your Head & Your Heart
The Georgian Triangle Housing Resource Centre is the local charity that has been recognized by RAISING THE ROOF to receive the proceeds from the sale of toques in the Georgian Triangle area.
By purchasing a stylish Canadian made toque for a minimum donation of $10 everyone can be a part of the solution to preventing homelessness.

Let’s Grow Screening Centre
Do you have a question or concern about how your child is developing? 
The Ontario Early Years Centre, is hosting the next Let’s Grow Screening Centre.
A professional will assess your child’s progress and, if necessary, refer you to support services. All parents of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are welcome.
The next Let’s Grow Screening Centre will be at the Ontario Early Years Centre, 250A Peel Street in Collingwood and will take place on, Thursday, January 15th, 2009, 9:30am – 12:00 and, it’s free!

The Breastfeeding Place
Location: Ontario Early Years Centre, 250A Peel Street, Collingwood, every Wednesday between 10:30 a.m. and noon. A Public Health Nurse provides support to the group and helps individuals with breastfeeding concerns.
For more information, please call the Health Unit at 721-7520.
 
 
Free Immunization Clinics Offered Regularly
 
Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling your local health unit office at 445-0804, extension 7200 or visit their website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org for dates of a clinic near you.
