This 1987 hit by U2 came about as birthday gift. U2’s Bono was feeling the guilt of spending so much time away from home concentrated on recording the Joshua Tree album that he felt he needed to do something special for his wife Ali.
For her birthday, Bono wrote this song for her. Although recorded in time for the Joshua Tree album the unabashed love song was dropped from the Album. Released as a B side to “Where the Streets Have No Name” it still managed to reach number three on the UK charts and get added to the US greatest hits package
The rather charming video for the song gives a few nods to Ireland including Irish Step Dancers from Riverdance, as well as Irish group Boyzone.
