Classic Hit Academy - Songs about deceptive, evil or dangerous Women – Maneater - Hall & Oates

Many people assume this 1982 hit by Hall & Oates is about a ruthless, predatory woman who uses her beauty to lure wealthy men to her. In fact the speculation that the song was about British actress and model Kelly LeBrock became so prevalent that most people still believe that she’s the inspiration even three decades later.

According to John Oates, however, it’s not about her…in fact it’s not about a woman at all. The song is about New York City in the 80s. He explained that it’s about greed, avarice, and spoiled riches. But we have it in the setting of a girl because it’s more relatable. It’s something that people can understand.
