Classic Hit Academy - Empowering Songs for Women - "Just a Girl" by No Doubt

Before becoming a celebrated pop diva, Gwen Stefani got her start singing backup for her brothers ska punk band No Doubt.

It would be a band she would later become lead singer for as their sound migrated from punk to pop!

Stefani wrote this song as an act of rebellion against her strict parents who wouldn’t let her drive late at night.

As she got older it took on a deeper meaning with snarky lyrics satirizing the way society in general shelters young women. It became a perfect pop punk feminist anthem.
