Classic Hit Academy – Cover Versions That Were Bigger Hits than the Original –“Always Something There To Remind Me”-Naked Eyes

This song written in the 1960s by songwriting team Burt Bacharach and Hal David, has had many versions over the years. Originally recorded as a demo by Dionne Warwick in 1963 it was soul singer Lou Johnson that first charted with it. His version reached No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1964.

UK artist Sandie Shaw’s released her version not long after and it went to #1 in the UK, Canada, South America and Australia but failed to crack the US charts.

Twenty years after its composition, the song finally reached the US Top 20. It was a synthpop reinvention of the song by Naked Eyes that actually reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1983.
