Canadian Blood Services encourages new and returning donors to make their greatest gift of the holidays by booking and keeping appointments to donate blood. Donations in and around the holidays will be essential to collect platelets, a vital blood component with a short shelf life of just seven days, that many patients living with cancer or a blood disorder may need for treatment. We know that travel, family activities and last-minute changes in routine over the holidays can interfere with plans, but many lifesaving medical procedures take place every day – the need never stops.
