Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club celebrates launch of New Lawn Bowling Greens

On Thursday, June 15th at 6:00 p.m., Brian Saunderson RIDING MPP will be at the Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club to celebrate the launch of New Lawn Bowling Greens. A new Greens Ditch Replacement provides for a safe, new and improved Greens Playing Surface for our Lawn bowlers, allowing for superior play, competitive tournaments bringing visitors into the town of Collingwood and enjoyment for all who engage in sport of lawn bowling for many years to come. This badly needed replacement would not have come about without the generous award of an Ontario Trillium Grant

Brian Saunderson and Lori Kay or her delegate from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, will attend the launch to mark the work done as a result of receiving a grant from the Foundation.

Michele Boyer, Board Vice President will say a few words about this initiative and its expected impact in the community. Cathy Clark will MC and Members of the Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club will also be in attendance and we would love to have you attend to take some pictures and put a few words forward for us that would be great!

Bowls or Lawn Bowling is a game which has been traced back to the 13th century. The object of the game is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a “Jack” or a “Kitty”. The game is played on a flat outdoor natural grass bowling green.
Bowls is a game for all ages; however, the low impact game appeals to seniors who find the outdoor activity provides for many health benefits, and opportunities for social interaction.

The Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club attracts residents from the greater Collingwood area, both rural and urban. Our mission is to maintain an affordable, quality lawn bowling facility for all to enjoy and benefit from. Our club calendar allows members to play at a level of competition that they are comfortable with, from casual fun games several times a week, to more competitive tournament style matches.
The clubhouse presents an additional opportunity for our members to engage socially as volunteer hosts or participants for club events, tournaments and meetings. Volunteers are also active in maintenance and organizational activities. While promotion of the game and related health benefits are often highlighted by clubs, members and especially our seniors also benefit from opportunities to engage socially and the satisfaction associated with the mental and physical challenges of volunteering.
