Elephant Thoughts presents Sound + Savour: a culinary and musical experience through woods, garden and meadow
Saturday June 7 engage in a beautiful afternoon at Riverstone Retreat, just outside Durham, Ontario. Wander the forest and riverside, enjoying fi ve courses of locally curated foods in a forest to table style setting as prepared by award winning and celebrated East Coast Indigenous Chef Ray Bear. Enjoy African drumming in the woods throughout the afternoon with Saikou Saho.
After the progressive dining experience, follow the path through the gardens for a remarkable show: Rueben and the Dark with the Bullhorn Singers was born through an unexpected turn of events. It was 2019 at the Calgary Stampede when the renowned indie-folk outfi t, Reuben and the Dark and traditional powwow champions, Bullhorn Singers merged for a live performance that left the crowd breathless. This impromptu and unlikely union of culture, life experience and sound in front of thousands was electric, and the start of a deep friendship and artistic collaboration between the two groups as they continue to write, record, headline festival stages and tour North America. This dynamic artist collective is unintentionally creating history in Canada; breaking down cultural boundaries through art to represent the healing power of music.
This incredibly special event is a fundraiser for a Tanzanian street youth centre with local ties. Carolyn Loopstra, originally from Thornbury Ontario operates the centre in Iringa, Tanzania. One hundred percent of Sound + Savour ticket sales go directly to the project.
“June 7 is going to be a very special day. Reuben and the Dark are one of my favourite bands. Legendary for their powerful live performances. The work they are doing with The Bullhorn Singers is extraordinary. Put that together with the best Chef I know, a beautiful eco retreat and the fact that some very deserving kids with few options are the benefi ciaries, and how could it be any better!?!?” says Jeremy Rhodes, Executive Director, Elephant Thoughts
This is a licensed rain or shine event. Come prepared to walk and enjoy the beauty of 136 acres of river, forest and meadow that is Riverstone Retreat.
